Getting Started
(The follow guide is intended for Windows 7 and Windows XP Operating Systems only)
*Please Note: Windows 7/Windows XP should be updated with the latest Updates & Service Packs for full support

You will need one of the following cameras:
  • Microsoft LifeCam (Studio, HD####, VX####)
  • Logitech C615 or C920

*Please DO NOT install any driver or software included with your camera; Windows will install the basic camera drivers.

You will also need:

Webcam file Setup
Copy the "VideoDS.DS" file (not the ZIP) to your "C:\Windows\TWAIN_32" folder.

Webcam Installation
  1. Close all open applications.
  2. Plug in your Microsoft or Logitech webcam.
  3. Once the camera is powered on, Windows will automatically install default drivers.
  4. Restart your PC (Computer) and allow Windows to start-up normally.

Confirming Webcam Installation
Windows 7:
  • Click your Windows menu button.
  • Select "Devices and Printers".
  • You should now see an icon for your webcam.
Windows XP:
  • Click your Windows Start button.
  • Select "Control Panel".
  • Double-click "Scanners and Cameras.
  • You should now see an icon for your webcam.

Configuring ProgenyES for the Camera
  1. Open ProgenyES (versions 8.5.21 to 8.8.14).
  2. Select the "Edit - Settings" menu option (may also be "Edit - Options").
  3. Select the "Devices" tab.
  4. For the Camera section, select "TWAIN (Generic)" for the Interface type.
  5. Click the "..." device browse button to the right of the Preferred Device box.
  6. A Select Photo TWAIN Source dialog will be displayed. Select "Video DataSource" and click the Select button.

  7. Click the OK button to close the Settings dialog.

Capturing an image in ProgenyES
  1. Make certain you have a current database open.
  2. Open a new or existing record.
  3. On the data entry dialog, click the green Add button just below the photo box.

  4. An Image Preview window will be displayed. Click the Capture button near the top-right.
  5. A Video Source dialog may be displayed. Select your Microsoft or Logitech camera as the Video Source and click the OK button.

  6. The Video DataSource capture window will be displayed.

  7. If the indicated resolution is less than 640 x 480 (24bit), click the Format button and choose the 640x480 resolution, then click OK.

  8. Click the Capture button on the Video DataSource window to take a picture.

Photo Capture Tips

Recommended distance between subject and webcam: 5ft/1.5m

When cropping in ProgenyES's Image Preview window, make certain the selected ratio is set to 5:4, then click near the left armpit, drag to the right armpit, and then up over the subjects head. When you click Crop, Progeny will automatically adjust the box to a perfect 5:4 portrait image.
