Why does the MRZ section print in variable width font/lines?

Keywords: id cards, mrz, machine readable zone, fixed width font, uneven lines
Applies To: ProgenyES v8.5.14+

The MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) on identification cards uses an international standard OCR (optical character recognition) font. This font is included with the ProgenyES software, however some computers may already have alternate OCR fonts installed that conflict with the font used by Progeny. If the MRZ on your identification card does not display as a constant fixed width font forming a rectangular area on the lower part of the card, then you need to remove the conflicting font(s) with the following steps.

(these steps assume Windows 2000 or Windows XP)
1) Open My Computer
2) Double-click into your local disk C: drive
3) Double-click into your Windows folder (or sometimes WinNT)
4) Double-click into your Fonts folder
5) Select the View menu and choose Details
6) Scroll the list of fonts down to the "O" section
7) Remove any OCR font except "ocrb10 (TrueType)"

Tip: Rather than delete the font files, you may wish to move them to another folder for safe keeping.

Once the extra font files have been removes and ProgenyES has been restarted, the MRZ section should format correctly. If you continue to experience incorrect formatting, please contact TDR Support for additional assistance.
